VPN Setup for Tomato Router : OpenVPN Protocol
Open VPN setup instructions for TOMATO Routers for Smart DNS Proxy VPN & SmartVPN networks.
Setting up a VPN server on Tomato router (ASUS RT-AC66U)
Go to VPN Tunneling > OpenVPN Client settings page and:
- Check “Start with WAN” (if you want to connect to VPN on the device start)
- Interface type: TUN
- Protocol: UDP
- Server address/Port: type your VPN server (you can find our VPN server name list here : http://support.smartdnsproxy.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1907772-vpn-server-locations-addresses
- Port: 1194 (you can also test ports 443, 80)
- Firewall: Automatic
- Check “Create NAT on tunnel”
- Authorization model: TLS
- TLS control channel security: Outgoing Auth (1)
- Check the Username/Password Authentication
- Enter Username and Password
- Leave Username Authen. Only UNCHECKED
- Auth digest: SHA256
Next you have to go to Advanced tab and:
- Poll Interval: 0
- Redirect Internet traffic: No
- Accept DNS configuration: Exclusive
- Enter the correct string in Data ciphers
- Compression: Disabled
- TLS Renegotiation Time: -1
- Connection retry: 30
- Leave the Verify Certificate UNCHECKED
- Verify Server Certificate: No
- Custom Configuration: Leave blank
Next to go Keys tab:
Paste the following into the Static Key window:

Once you copy content of all those files – you can just click Save and Start now. Your VPN client should be up! You can check its status when you click the Status tab:
